This course provides foundational knowledge for those responding to persons affected by strangulation. Each module will include a knowledge check that must be passed in order to proceed with the course. In addition to modules, there are handouts included for education and reference.
Objectives of this course include:
- Define strangulation and identify applicable anatomical landmarks of the neck.
- Explain the pathophysiology and associated symptomatology of strangulation.
- State at least 3 components that should be included in a comprehensive strangulation examination.
- State at least 3 best practices for the photodocumentation of a strangulation examination
- Describe the informed consent process and discharge education process for a patient affected by strangulation.
- Verbalize injury examples for both blunt and sharp force trauma
- Explain the process for using a digital contrast filter.
- State the best practice image storage and transfer process.
