Human Trafficking & Exploitation: Implications for Healthcare Providers

This presentation provides healthcare providers with essential knowledge and practical skills to recognize, assess, and respond to patients experiencing human trafficking. Through case-based discussion and application of best practices, attendees will strengthen their ability to identify trafficking concerns, reduce re-traumatization, and provide patient-centered care that prioritizes safety, dignity, and informed decision-making. At completion, 1.5 CEs will be provided.
Objectives:
- Recognize the prevalence of human trafficking and identify red flags and other clinical manifestations of this vulnerable patient population.
- Define key terms used by traffickers and trafficked patients.
- Explain trauma-informed and evidence-based care and protocols for identified victims of human trafficking.
- Communicate effectively with other healthcare providers and multidisciplinary partners, including collaboration with resources and referrals to Human Trafficking organizations.
